julius12 as always. Title has very little to do with the story.
“Pass the turkey, Cissie?” Bart asked.
Cassie laughed in disbelief. “Bart, you’ve already had five helpings!”
“And another four at Carol’s house,” Helen said. “Bart had dinner with them before coming here.”
“Hyperspeed metabolism,” Bart said. “I can’t help it!”
“I can,” Max pointed out.
Snapper and Greta had cooked a Thanksgiving meal for all of the Young Justice members and their families. Teenagers often ate a lot of food, and adding a superspeeded metabolism only meant that they’d need more food. They had cooked five turkeys.
Bart had brought Max and Helen with him, while Cassie had brought her mom and Cissie. Red Tornado had shown up with Traya, and Anita’s dad had dropped Anita off with them, but he had declined to come in. Lobo had shown up to steal one of the turkeys and leave. Kon hadn’t brought anyone.
There was only one person missing. Robin.
Robin was, of course, busy. He’d told them all that he really would prefer to eat with the team, but his family didn’t know he was Robin and they wanted him to eat Thanksgiving with them.
The team still missed him, though.
“Hey,” Greta said. “Let’s all share what we’re thankful for.”
“Good idea,” Cassie said.
“I’m thankful that you all are here for me,” Greta said. “And you didn’t let the DEO take me back and everything.”
“We couldn’t have done that, Greta!” Kon told her.
“I know,” Greta said, “and I’m thankful for it.” She smiled.
“I’m thankful for a lot of things. My powers, my family, my friends,” Cassie said.
“I’m thankful that I still have you guys,” Cissie said, “Even if I’m not really one of you anymore.”
“You’ll always be one of us!” Cassie said.
“Thanks,” Cissie said, “but I’m not.”
“I’m thankful for my X-Ray vision glasses,” Kon said.
“Classy,” Cassie said.
Kon grinned.
“I am grateful for my family,” Red Tornado said. “And that you children reminded me of my humanity.”
“Through annoyingness?” Bart asked, grinning.
“Precisely.”
“I’m grateful that Bart hasn’t managed to get himself killed,” Max said. “Yet.”
“Hey!” Bart said indignantly. “I’m careful. Sometimes.”
“No, you’re not,” Cassie said.
“Whose side are you on?” Bart asked.
“I can tell you what I’m grateful for,” Robin said, materializing from the shadows. “Parents who go to bed early.”
“Rob!” Bart said, bouncing forward and grabbing him in a huge hug. “Thought you weren’t gonna make it!”
“So did I,” Robin said, “But I guess I got lucky, huh?”
“Great to see you, man,” Kon said.
“Yeah,” Cassie said. “It just wasn’t the same without you.”
“Can you eat more?” Snapper asked. “We still have…an entire half turkey left. Wow, we did not over buy.”
“Bart’s fault,” Anita said. “He ate two.”
“Kon ate an entire bird too!” Bart said.
Robin laughed and pulled up a chair. “Got any sweet potatoes left?”
After Bart and Max had taken care of the clean-up in three seconds, Bart ran outside to sit with Robin. “We really did miss you,” he said.
“Yeah?” Robin said. “I missed you too.”
They sat together, looking up at the stars.
“Hey, Rob?” Bart said after a few minutes.
“Yes?”
“You wanna know what I’m thankful for?”
“What?”
“I’m thankful for you.”
