julius12. Oracle's new security system comes from the latest Gotham Underground. See it here.
“Babs!” Dinah called, bursting into Oracle’s tower. “We’ve got a problem.”
“What?” Barbara asked.
“Ninjas keep attacking Sin! She can defend herself, and I can defend her, but I don’t want her to have to! I want Sin to be able to have a normal childhood!”
“Ah,” Barbara said. “I can wire her into my new security system.”
“New security system?” Dinah said.
“Watch,” Barbara said with a smirk. She flicked a switch to the ‘test’ setting and pressed a big, red button.
A robot came flying out of the wall waving a sword.
Wildcat punched the robot out.
“Ted!” Dinah said. “Where’d you come from?”
“Hey, Dinah,” Ted said. “I’m Oracle’s new security system.”
“Exactly,” Babs said. “Whenever I press this button, he appears out of nowhere and punches whatever assailant is attacking.”
“And they don’t come back,” Ted added, punching his open palm.
“So Sin…”
“I’d give her this,” Barbara said, holding up a watch. “It comes in cutesy designs, too, if she’d prefer. There’s a secret button that she can push if she’s ever in trouble, and Ted will show up.”
Dinah smiled. “I could kiss you.”
“Wait till Ted’s gone, honey,” Barbara said.
“I’m just leaving,” Ted said. “Stay out of trouble, Babs.”
“Bye,” Dinah said.
“Oh!” Barbara said. “I also gave some though to the matter of Sin’s education. Helena’s offered to tutor her, but as for a school, how does St. Elias’ sound?”
“St. Elias’?” Dinah asked.
Barbara pressed a few buttons on her computer and the website came up.
“It’s a well-known private school that a lot of people in the hero community have used. Traya goes there, you know, Red Tornado’s daughter?”
Dinah nodded. “So you think they’re accustomed to dealing with…unusual children?”
“They also have Wonder Girl, the former Arrowette and the former Secret. If you’d like her to go there, I can have an application sent this minute. There’s an interview and a few formalities, but I’m sure we can get her in. And I’m sure we can get Cassie to keep an eye out for her. Be a friend and everything – mmph.”
Dinah had grabbed Barbara by the back of the neck and kissed her.
“Barbara Gordon,” she said, breaking the kiss. “I love you.”
“I love you too, Dinah Lance,” Barbara said.
“Speaking of which,” Dinah said. “We really should get started on planning the wedding.”
“I wrote Program: Oracle/Black Canary Wedding a while ago in preparation for exactly this contingency,” Barbara said. “All I need to do is start it and Delphi does everything for us.”
“You…what if I want some say in it?” Dinah asked crossly.
Barbara laughed. “I know what you want,” she said. “But I want the wedding to be perfect. So if there’s anything you have a particular preference for, tell me.”
“I want everyone in costume,” Dinah said.
“That’s almost everyone we know anyways,” Barbara said. “And check.”
“And I want that great Italian place we liked in Gotham to make the food.”
“Also done. Do you want to see the list I made?” Barbara pressed a button and the list printed. She picked it up and handed it to Dinah.
Dinah glanced over it.
“Damn you, woman, you know me too well,” she grumbled. “I hate the band you picked for the party.”
“No you don’t. You’re just arguing because you don’t like that I planned the perfect party.”
“Fine, I don’t hate them, but I’d have preferred Green Day or something.”
“Dinah, honey, I’m not really all powerful.”
“I know,” Dinah sighed. “I just feel useless. You’ve got your program, and what, I just sit back and wait for the wedding?”
“Dinah,” Barbara said. She turned her wheelchair towards Dinah and rolled towards her. “I’m really, really good at planning and organizing. In case you haven’t noticed, it’s my job.”
“I know,” Dinah said.
“And I knew you’d feel that way. So I of course put you in charge of flowers, decorations, and your wedding dress.”
“Well, I do know flowers,” Dinah said. “I always thought I’d have my best friend helping me to pick out my dress.”
“It’s bad luck to see the bride in her dress before the wedding,” Barbara reminded her with a smirk.
“I was talking about Helena,” Dinah said. “She and Zinda are taking me.”
Barbara laughed. “They’re taking me too! And they’re planning the double Bachelorette Party.”
“At least this way we know we won’t be getting the same dress,” Dinah said.
“Oracle?” Helena’s voice blared from the headset around Barbara’s neck.
Barbara pulled the headset up. “Yeah, Huntress?”
“I could use a little of your computery genius here!”
“I have to go check on Sin,” Dinah said.
Barbara waved at her, already back at her work. “Yeah, Huntress? What do you need?”
Dinah left the apartment and unlocked her motorcycle. It was really annoying how Babs tended to know everything, but in a way it was great.
Dinah couldn’t imagine getting herself organized enough to pull an entire wedding together.
