anthraciteowl. I really liked this one. I wasn't sure how I'd do this at first, but I like what I came up with.
1. Tim was good, there was no denying it. But Bart could think through every single possible move in the time it took most people to blink.
When he bothered to wait that long, at least. Tim couldn't tell whether Bart's moves were entirely random or part of a brilliant strategy that Tim had yet to see.
It came as a surprise to both of them when Bart won.
Cassie had to pay Kon five bucks.
2. Finally, Tim was a move away from checkmate. After losing game after game after game to Bart, Tim had figured out how to beat him and he was going to do it! He picked up his bishop and smirked triumphantly at Bart...
Who looked so crestfallen that Tim was going to beat him in the one thing he'd always managed to win.
Tim took a pawn. Bart gave him a confused look and Tim shrugged.
Bart grinned and beat him in three moves.
3. Half way through the game, Bart glanced up at Tim. "Want to go out with me?"
"What?" Tim said.
"You know, like a date?"
Tim couldn't concentrate the rest of the game. Bart beat him easily.
Tim suspected Bart was just a little evil.
4. "I think you're cheating," Tim said.
Bart smiled at him innocently and continued to stroke the inside of Tim's thigh with his foot. "It's your move," he said.
"Hmm," Tim said, struggling valiantly to focus on the game, not on where Bart's foot was and how it was so close to his -
He moved his knight.
"You can't move your knight," Bart pointed out, his foot gently rubbing Tim. "It's pinned, remember?"
It was too much. "I'll pin you," he growled knocking the board over as he tackled Bart.
As he kissed Bart's neck, Bart gasped out, "Does this mean you concede?"
5. Strip chess had seemed like such a good idea at the time.
Lose a piece, lose an item of clothing. Lose the game, you bottom. But the Impulse costume really didn't have nearly as many parts as the Robin one did. Tim was mostly covered where as Bart was just sitting there, naked except for one glove. It wasn't fair.
Screw this.
Tim played the rest of the game to lose.

axolotl_lan.
Bart was alive.
Bart was alive.
Bart was alive!
Tim couldn't believe it. He just held on to Bart like his life depended on it.
"You're alive, it's okay, you're not - oh god, I missed you, Bart," he muttered.
Bart hugged him back. "It's okay, Tim. I wish I could have come back sooner. I tried to, but time travel's kinda sucky and - but I'm back. It's okay." He laughed a little. "Grife, Tim. I missed you too."
"It's been horrible," Tim said. "First Kon - then you - god, I didn't know what I was going to do!"
"I'm okay," Bart repeated. "It's okay."
Tim just leaned his head against Bart's shoulder, and it was still weird that he was so tall, but Tim didn't care. It was Bart, and that was all that mattered.
"Hey," Bart said, touching Tim's cheek. "You'll be okay."
"Yeah," Tim said, looking up again. He smiled, and looked up at Bart. "Now I will be."
Bart smiled back and kissed him lightly. "I really did miss you."
Tim snorted. "At least you knew I was alive."
"In a different century."
"Still."
"Don't worry," Bart promised. "I won't leave you again."
Tim hoped Bart would be able to keep that promise.
