Most people in my friends group either write and read fanfiction or only vaguely know it exists.
My personal actual friends are willing to read my original stuff, but there are a lot more people who read my fanfiction. It's much harder to convince myself to write original stuff when I know that more people will enjoy the fan stuff. I still write original fiction, but not as often as I should.
