Cissie didn't miss being a superhero. She missed Young Justice, though. She saw Greta and Cassie and Traya all the time at school, but she and Anita had been reduced to writing each other emails, and she only saw Bart when he remembered to run over and say hi.

She only knew how Tim and Kon were doing through Cassie.

It was stressful, having a superhero for a best friend. It wasn't anything that Cissie wasn't used to, but every weekend when Cassie left for the Titans, Cissie knew that there was a chance she'd never see Cassie again. When Cassie returned, she'd give a small sigh of relief, but she wouldn't show Cassie how worried she'd been. Cassie would laugh and tell her that her fears were unfounded.

Cissie may have quit being a superhero, but she knew that the dangers were real. Young Justice had broken up because of the Donna Troy's death. She didn't want her Wonder Girl to die. So she quietly worried and waited for Cassie to come back.

Cissie had a bad feeling about this weekend. It was like the feeling she'd gotten the few times she'd let an arrow fly off target. The instant she'd let go of the arrow, she knew it was all wrong, but it was too late to stop it.

She really didn't want Cassie to leave.

Cissie stumbled through the weekend in a nervous daze. She only ate when Greta force-fed her. She barely slept, even when Traya made her go to bed.

Sunday, and Cissie knew it was only a matter of time until Cassie would be back. Until she could relax. On a quiet weekend, Cassie sometimes made it back by six o'clock.

Cissie went down for dinner at 7: 30. No Cassie.

Eight o'clock. Nine o'clock. Ten. Eleven. No Cassie.

Cissie brushed her teeth and combed her hair, then pulled out a book to read. She knew she wouldn't be able to fall asleep until Cassie was safely back.

One o'clock. Two o'clock.

Where was she?

Three thirty, and Cissie heard a quiet knock on the window.

She jumped out of bed and opened it. It wasn't Cassie, it was...

"Kon?" she asked. "What're you doing...oh my god. Cassie."

Kon was carrying Cassie wrapped in a blanket.

"She's alive," Kon said, his voice wavering. "Hurt, but alive. And Raven took away most of the pain. She'll be fine in a few days."

"Put her on the bed," Cissie said, pulling the window open more. "What...what happened?"

"Should have been routine," Kon said blankly. "We were – it wasn't even like we were fighting Deathstroke! It was just some dumb supervillain who was really powerful and really stupid. We took him down about three seconds after he got her."

"That's terrible," Cissie said as Kon gently placed Cassie on the bed.

"I know." Kon hovered anxiously around the bed.

Cissie bit her lip, hard, staring at Cassie. She didn't know what to do now. Cassie was...Cassie could fly and deflect bullets. She was one of the strongest members of the team.

She shook herself and turned to Kon. "You should go," she said. "We're not allowed to have boys in our rooms after curfew."

"Right," Kon said. "I'm sorry. Take- take care of her, alright?"

"Of course," Cissie said.

Kon flew out the window.

It was terrible, seeing Cassie looking so vulnerable. Cissie walked over to Cassie's bed and sat on the edge delicately.

She wasn't used to feeling tougher than Cassie, less breakable, less bruised.

Cissie moved Cassie's hair out of her face. Cassie sighed a little in her sleep, and Cissie gave a sort of half smile.

Injured or no, Cassie was back, and she was alive. Cissie had at least that much to be thankful for. She went back to her own bed and finally fell asleep.

"Greta, tell them I'm really, really sick," Cissie begged. "I haven't missed a single class since you guys kidnapped me and made me play baseball against aliens. Just – I need to stay back and help Cassie today."

"I don't like lying," Greta said worriedly.

"You saw her. She's hurt. I can't – Greta, I can't just leave her." Cissie bit back the sobs that seemed to be just on the edge of her voice. She knew Cassie would survive, but her best friend was in pain! Couldn't Greta understand that? Cissie would have done the same for Greta in a heartbeat.

Wouldn't she have? The thought of sweet little Greta getting hurt was not a happy one, but it didn't compare to the mind-numbing shock at the thought of losing Cassie.

Greta nodded, looking thoughtful. "No, you couldn't. Fine, Cissie, I'll make excuses for you. Get her better."

Cissie smiled. "You're the best, Greta," she said.

Greta blushed a little, pleased. "Thanks. Oh, but Cissie?"

Cissie had turned to go back into her room, but she looked back at Greta. "Yes?" she asked.

"I know how you feel about her. I think she feels the same way."

Cissie stared at Greta. "Um, what?"

"You know," Greta said. "That you like her."

"I- I don't!" Cissie protested. "I like men! I'm straight!" She thought about it for a second. "Oh my god. I'm in love with Cassie. What do I do, Greta?"

"Tell her," Greta advised. She walked away, leaving Cissie standing in the hall.

Cassie was still asleep, but the bruises were healing. The best thing about metahumans was that they didn't stay injured for long. Cissie remembered when Harm had thrust one of her own arrows through her arm, leading her to Young Justice for help. Impulse had vibrated the arrow out, but the injury took its time in healing. It ached dully for weeks afterwards. She felt under her sleeve distractedly. The scar, though faded, was still there.

She was in love with Cassie. How come she hadn't seen it before? Now that she knew, it was achingly, glaringly obvious. Cassie was amazing. Cassie was beautiful. Cassie was completely and wonderfully perfect.

No wonder she'd felt jealous when Cassie and Kon had started dating. She told herself it was a mild attraction to Superboy, or that she simply wanted to date someone herself, but really, it had been a crush on Wonder Girl.

Greta thought Cissie should tell Cassie. Could Cissie do that? What if Cassie didn't like her that way? What if Cassie started treating her differently? What if she lost Cassie as a friend?

The thought hurt.

But...

What if Cassie did like her that way?

The only way she could find out was to ask.

And Cissie had been a Superhero. She knew how to be brave.

Cassie didn't wake up until almost noon. Cissie heard her groan and rushed to her side.

"Cassie," she said. "How do you feel?"

"Like I was run over by a hummer," Cassie said. She paused. "Without superpowers, I mean."

"I know what you mean," Cissie said. "Can I, I don't know, get you anything? I'm taking the day off of classes."

"You're skipping, Cissie?" Cassie asked.

"You're more important than calculus," Cissie said.

Cassie laughed. "Sweetest thing anyone's ever said to me," she said.

Her voice sounded thick and dry. Cissie gave her a glass of water. "Here," she said.

"Thanks," Cassie said, taking it.

Cissie smiled. "I'm glad you're okay."

"I'm annoyed that I let that idiot get a hit in," Cassie said. "I should have been faster."

"Everyone screws up," Cissie said. She hoped she wasn't about to. "Cassie, I have to tell you something."

"Go ahead," Cassie said. "I'm not going anywhere, even if I want to."

"I think," Cissie said hesitantly. "That I might like girls."

"Cool," Cassie said. "So do I. Well, both, really. Most Amazons do. I mean, Themyscira has no men. They have to have sex with someone."

Cissie laughed. "Well, that's a relief. I was a little afraid you might hate me. Just a little!" she said, holding up her hands at Cassie's indignant expression. "I only just realized it myself this morning."

"Come out to anyone else, then?" Cassie asked.

"Well, Greta's the one who pointed it out to me. Once I started thinking about it, though, it made perfect sense."

Cassie nodded. "I sort of thought you might. I didn't want to say anything, though."

"Thanks," Cissie said. "I appreciate it."

Cassie grinned and sat up. "So...spill. Who's the girl you've got your sights set on."

Cissie blushed. "I...well...there's really just..." Cissie looked at Cassie. "You."

Cassie said nothing.

Oh, no. Cassie didn't return her feelings. This was a mistake. It was stupid. She shouldn't have told Cassie anything –

Cassie leaned forward and pecked Cissie shyly on the lips.

Cissie looked at her in amazement.

"I've been in love with you since forever," Cassie whispered. "When you said you liked girls – well, I hoped, but I didn't think – This is amazing."

Cissie grinned and leaned forward again to kiss Cassie. Cassie put an arm around Cissie's head, and Cissie could feel the cold metal of Cassie's bracelets next to her ear.

She was kissing Wonder Girl. Cassie was in love with her. Cissie felt so happy, she could have screamed.

Instead, she hugged Cassie closer to her chest and kissed her. Last night, she hadn't even been aware that she had these dreams. Now, they were coming true. Cassie, wonderful Cassie, was hers.

"Cissie hates not knowing if Cissie's alive or dead."

That's exactly what I was talking about yesterday! Synchronicity!

Also, Greta's gaydar is amazing.

Oh, *girls*. I have missed them as they were in YJ, and this is a great look at their post-YJ lives together. And go Greta!
